Dr. Lucian Reinfandt (b. 1969) is an Arabist and senior researcher at the Documentation Centre Political Islam in Vienna, Austria. After studies of Political Science, History and Law and in Cairo, Egypt and Hamburg, Germany, he worked in Germany and Austria as an official in the ministery of the interior as well as in the Universities of Kiel, Germany and Vienna, Austria. Visiting researcher in Cairo (1996-97), Sidney (2013) and Chicago (2016). Visiting professor at the University of Innsbruck (2015). His main fields of research are the history of the Middle East, the relationship of law and society in Islam, Islamic reform in the modern era, and early Islam.
