Ambassador of Italy to the United Arab Emirates
Lorenzo Fanara, born on 1 June 1970 in Agrigento, Italy, is a senior Italian diplomat and the current Ambassador of Italy to the United Arab Emirates. He graduated with honours in Law from the University of Palermo in 1993 after completing his secondary education at Empedocle Liceo Classico in Agrigento, and initially practised as a lawyer before entering the diplomatic service in 1998. His early career included assignments at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome, followed by service at the Permanent Representation of Italy to the European Union in Brussels from 2002 to 2006. He later served at the Italian Embassy in Moscow, where he focused on economic, trade, and energy policy issues, and subsequently worked as a speechwriter in the cabinets of several Foreign Ministers. From 2013 to 2016, he was Political Adviser at the Italian Embassy in London, and between 2017 and 2018 he served as Deputy Head of Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. From 2018 until 2022, he was Ambassador of Italy to Tunisia, before assuming his current role as Ambassador of Italy to the UAE in October 2022. Ambassador Fanara speaks English, French, and Russian, is a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy, and is married with two children.
