Lead for Intercultural Dialogue for Peace at UNESCO

Euan Mackway-Jones is a Specialist at UNESCO, where he leads research and provides technical assistance to advance evidence-based policy and practice for the effective governance of complex social development issues, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected contexts. He currently leads the Organisation’s work on Intercultural Dialogue for Peace, and has previously contributed to UNESCO’s work on foresight and futures. Previously, Euan led UNESCO’s social development programming in South Asia, based in New Delhi, India. Before joining UNESCO, he served on the advisory board of one of the UK’s fastest-growing non-profit organizations, founded a successful social enterprise, and led or advised numerous social action initiatives. His research and publications span topics such as community-generated resilience; systems approaches to social sustainability and inclusion; the nexus of climate change and social conflict; participatory identification of systemic risks in complex social systems; and the governance of evidence surrounding emerging social risks. Euan has been recognized as a World Economic Forum Global Shaper, a UNHCR Innovation Fellow, and an UnLtd Fellow. He holds an MPhil in Comparative Social Policy from the University of Oxford and a BA (Hons) in History and Politics from the University of Warwick. He is currently pursuing a Master of Applied Science in Data, Economics, and Development Policy at MIT through a blended-learning program.
