Dr. Maryam Hussain is a senior compliance and financial crime risk expert with more than 10 years of experience in AML/CFT, regulatory compliance, and governance across the banking and government sectors in the United Arab Emirates. She currently serves as Head of Compliance at Protego Insurance Brokers, leading enterprise-wide compliance strategies, AML/CFT frameworks, regulatory governance, and financial crime risk management in alignment with UAE and international standards. Throughout her career, she has held senior compliance and AML leadership roles at leading institutions including RAK Bank, the UAE Ministry of Economy, Habib Bank AG Zurich, and United Bank Ltd. Dr. Maryam played a significant role in national AML initiatives, including contributing to the UAE’s removal from the FATF grey list, for which she received official recognition. Her expertise includes AML/CFT compliance, correspondent banking compliance, regulatory inspections, KYC/CDD oversight, risk-based compliance frameworks, and stakeholder management. She holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA), an LLM in Financial Crime & Money Laundering from the University of Dubai, multiple master’s degrees in finance and business research, and internationally recognized certifications including CAMS.
